Pool surround and changing room
This project is to make the most of a large area at the back corner of the
existing garden, it is a kidney shaped swimming pool surrounded by a small wall
and a sloping bank.
The client wanted the area surrounding the pool to be a place to entertain and
enjoy with an outdoor chalet type building for a changing room and summerhouse.
The summer house was to be insulated for all year storage use and have electrics
for lighting and sockets, they also wanted lighting in the rest of the
surrounding pool area.
Our design was to follow the curves of the swimming pool and build two
terraces into the sloping bank, the top terrace would have a summerhouse, they
would have hardwood deck flooring and retaining wall was made from rendered
block work.
To bring the rest of the garden into the design we put in small rendered block
walls around an existing oak tree and a mulched pathway around the back of the
tree leading up to the side of the summerhouse.
From the back door there is a pathway and steps leading up to the front of the
swimming pool made from sanded railway sleepers filled with a concrete instep,
we put in lighting bollards along side the pathway and to the right of the steps
was a large flower bed with spot lights. The deck had sunken up lighters in
around the curve of the retaining wall.
Around the oak tree we planted a bed of ferns we put in some powerful up
lighting to highlight the mature oak tree and some spotlights amongst the ferns.
We supplied a backbone of planting with lots of semi mature shrubs and some
large hardy palms dotted around and lots of colour from agapanthus and crocosmia,
to add some colour on the deck we planted some agaves in pots.
The summerhouse was made from a chalet kit and we modified the doors to give it
a more contemporary feel and it had lighting and sockets installed.
The completed garden is easy to use and maintain while looking stunning. It
has the look and feel of a holiday getaway.
